“Le Chapeau”
Posted by Margaret Watts on 29 Sep 2016 / 0 Comment

Paris, we made a quick trip to Paris ; this time playing a bit of the tourist, but mostly to drink in the modern art at the Pompidou Center and the newly reopened Picasso Museum. I was experimenting with paper towel mono-prints on an advertisement randomly painting with water colors when the lady and the […]

“Sea Creatures after Miro”
Posted by Margaret Watts on 29 Sep 2016 / 0 Comment

Remaining in the light hearted vein, the next piece, “Sea Creatures after Miro” was inspired by Miro’s stained glass window at the Maeght Foundation in St. Paul de Vence, France. The setting, displays, whimsical landscape, French sun, and joy de vivre contributed to creative impulses. The first image is my quick pen sketch of Miro’s […]

Welcome Rocks, Grand Lake: A Collage
Posted by Margaret Watts on 23 Feb 2015 / 0 Comment

Welcome Rocks, Grand Lake As you round the curve coming into Grand Lake, a bank of rocks covered with snow welcomes.  I did a quick sketch and created the collage with papers and shapes.  Perhaps the sky should be differentiated from the rocks and snow.  This collage is a […]

Dancing Red Trees An Abstraction
Posted by Margaret Watts on 05 Feb 2015 / 0 Comment

Dancing Red Trees An Abstraction This under painting on canvas was textured with media, papers, leaves, and sanded between layers.  As I worked the surface with my brush, red trees danced.  I applied seven or eight layers of paint between each sanding to create depth.  The negative spaces […]

In Grand Lake! Abstract Landscape Painting
Posted by Margaret Watts on 05 Feb 2015 / 0 Comment

After a tiring but wonderful move to Colorado, I am settling down to review my last Texas paintings on canvas.  I am experimenting with pure abstraction and a dream I had about red trees.  None of the pieces are finished and I am still in the incubation phase.  Thinking, thinking…so I am posting them as […]

Sun Setting Grand Lake Collage
Posted by Margaret Watts on 05 Feb 2015 / 0 Comment

Because of the altitude, the sunsets here are spectacular and different in some way everyday. Colors are brilliant and this afternoon, the sun seemed to sink into the mountains.  I made a quick sketch and finished the collage (5″x7″) with tissue paper, inks and oil pastels.  The Alpen glow disappears  into the horizon. This […]

Posted by Margaret Watts on 05 Feb 2015 / 0 Comment

The Post Office in Grand Lake A Collage I did a quick sketch of the Grand Lake Post Office and completed a small ( 5″x7″) collage with tissues, ink, pencils blended with alcohol to shape the surrounding Rocky Mountain National Park.  This collage is a stimulus for a large painting  in my  Grand Lake Series.
